help us do this by:
* reporting into the Chief Counsel based in Dallas, Tx USA, with a dotted line to the Chief Regulatory Counsel the role holder will focus on general commercial matters, including specific hands-on management of legal and tactical issues associated with BT’s tax (ICMS/FUST/FUNTEL etc) strategy. This will involve close interworking with internal stakeholders including Regulatory, Finance and Tax, as well as close engagement with external legal advisers in this area;
* help support the wider strategic priorities of the General Counsel, Americas Region. Work closely with the Brazil Country Manager and other senior management representatives both within and outside Brazil in meeting their business and strategic goals;
* work in close cooperation with other members of the Brazil LGC (Legal, Governance & Compliance) team, as well as the wider LGC team in the Americas region;
* formulate, input into or help actively support LGC strategies both in country and in region;
* responsible for discharging / managing approvals, and maintaining compliance with, BT Group Policies in accordance with the relevant LOB DOA;

  • help drive commercial opportunities through an in-depth understanding of the Brazil regional business, including creating mechanisms to simplify, speed-up and improve contracting while managing and mitigating risks appropriately.

What you’ll be doing
· provide hands on tactical management and specialist support in
relation to BT’s tax (ICMS/FUST/FUNTEL etc) strategy.

· support the acquisition of profitable and sustainable business
through the provision of risk-savvy legal advice through both customer and
supply-side contracting vehicles;

· people management experience is an advantage but is not currently
required for this role;

· lead, manage and coordinate the delivery of general legal advice and
assistance;

· effectively collaborate with other members of the in-country and
regional LGC teams;

· work closely with in-country senior management, and act as a trusted
advisor to the regional business leadership, irrespective of line of business;

· lead and support key business initiatives in the country and in the
Americas region;

· lead and contribute to the on-going improvement of in-country and
regional LGC professional standards and working practices;

· lead and contribute to the development of a high performance culture
within the LGC function;

· support the development of the BT Legal strategy and its regional
implementation;
* help tightly manage the Legal budget within the Latam region.

We’ll also need to see these on your CV:
* the role holder will ideally need to have a generalist commercial skill set, along with hands on strong working knowledge of ICMS/FUST/FUNTEL issues within a telecommunications context. Familiarity with regulatory frameworks is also preferred but is not specifically required;
* proven thought leader with experience of successfully interworking in a matrix structure;
* substantial legal experience with a full range of excellent contract drafting skills, including drafting of custom end-to-end contracts;
* in depth experience of the telecoms and IT industry preferred;
* ability to deal with customers and suppliers, both internal and external, at senior levels and to brief and advise stakeholders including senior management
* effectively and in a commercially astute manner on complex matters;excellent communications skills both oral and in writing;
* proven project-management skills to include previous experience of building and managing virtual project teams;
* excellent understanding of risk management and mitigation strategies;
* extensive experience of operating as lead / support negotiator in face-to-face customer negotiations;
* proven ability and experience of working flexibly both in terms of hours and location;
* skills in managing and motivating team members, including demonstrable track record of appropriate performance management, is preferred;
* ability to secure the trust of senior leadership;
* highly-developed ‘commercial awareness’;
* demonstrable common and commercial sense and an ability to understand the implications of contractual changes to the P&L of a transaction;
* ability to drill down into the commercial structure of a transaction and to diplomatically steer the business and point out key risks;
* proven strategic judgment;
* ability to prioritise matters based on sound risk assessments and work under pressure; and
* outcomes and solution orientated with the ability to apply legal principles pragmatically.

  • Bar admission in Brazil with 5-10 years years of post-admission experience
  • recognized thought leader, able to come up with creative solutions that help drive business outcomes while mitigating risks;
  • self-motivated with a high degree of initiative and responsibility;
  • ability and willingness on occasion to work long / unsociable hours and away from the office location for periods of time subject to the reasonable needs of the business;
  • reliable and tenacious, with a high degree of personal integrity;
  • strong solutions orientation;
  • able to grasp details quickly and communicate legal and commercial issues effectively into other stakeholder communities;
  • excellent verbal & written communication skills;
  • fluency in English, Portuguese and Spanish (written and oral); and

  • leadership capabilities, with an ability to work effectively in a team
